SYNOPSIS

Bankrupt, with his career on a downslide, egomaniacal Broadway director Oscar Jaffe boards the Twentieth Century Limited and encounters his former discovery and ex-chorus girl Lily Garland, now a tempermental Hollywood star on the train between NY and Chicago. He pulls out all the stops in persuading her to return to Broadway in his upcoming show

ANITA HIGHLAND: Female, 20-30, attractive, down-to-earth office manager for Dr. Lockwood
DR GROVER LOCKWOOD: Male, 40-50, passenger on the train, aspiring playwright
PORTER: Male, 20, young, efficient fellow who knows his job
MATTHEW CLARK: Male, 60-70, odd little man, pale and upright, old-fashioned
OWEN O’MALLEY: Male, 40-50, associate of Oscar’s, harassed and bellicose, disposed to fight about anything
CONDUCTOR: Male, 40-50, dignified
IDA WEBB: Female, 30-40, tough, efficient, smart-mouthed dame who plays poker with the boys and wins, Oscar’s general manager
OSCAR JAFFE: Male, 45-55, Broadway producer, lives, breathes, eats and dreams about the theatre and nothing else
LILY GARLAND: Female, 30-40, stunning, glamorous, and totally magnetic – a Star!
